Several varieties of oats in five North Dakota areas between the period of 1939 to 1944 are reviewed for causes of increased rust damage and lower yields. Different varieties fare better than others. Later ripening time, high temperatures, drought or periods of heavy rainfall coupled with heavy growth appeared to increase crop problems. 1941 appeared to be a year the year that crop damage of oats increased.
