dc.descriptionThe author gives information on sunflower seed drying in North Dakota. Sunflower production in North Dakota was on the rise at this time. This resulted in more farmers using grain dryers on sunflower seeds. Some of the need for grain drying resulted from harvesting sunflower seeds at moisture contents above safe storage levels. This practice reduced losses from birds, head dropping, and shattering while harvesting. Also, late in the fall the seeds may never reach safe storage moisture levels in the field due to inadequate drying by sunlight.
