dc.title | How Nitrogen Fertilizer Affects Western N. Dak. Range Vegetation | en_US |
dc.type | Article | en_US |
dc.description | Western one-third North Dakota was covered by native grasslands. One of the largest agricultural industries in the state was beef cattle. At this time, m uch of these native grasslands were unusable for grazing. A study to increase grass production using nitrogen fertilizers was carried out during the 1964-66 growing seasons and is presented in this article. Improvement of native range production by
means of nitrogen fertilization may be realized in
western North Dakota. The application of nitrogen
fertilizer, however, must be carried out with discretion,
as the vegetation of different range sites reacts differently when fertilizer is used. | |
