The first appearance of rust on wheat was noted each year as an important event. The opinion was widespread that an early appearance of rust in the spring wheat area means heavy losses in yields. However, records from the Department of Plant Pathology dating back to 1919 visibly showed that this prediction was not always certain. The influence of weather conditions was more important than an early start of rust. This one page article gives other details on this condition.
