In 1957, the acreage of alfalfa seeded in North Dakota increased approximately 300,000 acres annually in the past four years. Seedings of soybeans, birdsfoot trefoil and red clover were increasing, also. Many farmers were going to seed legumes on soil that had not grown that specific legume for many years, if ever. The North Dakota Experiment Station recommended that the farmer inoculate legume crops and to apply fungicides to the forage seeds. The article makes a list of recommended things for the farmer to follow regarding such.
