Abstract
Originally published in The Ladies Companion, or, the English Midwife wherein is demonstrated the manner and order of how women ought to govern themselves during the whole time of their difficult labour ... also the various forms of the child's [sic] proceeding forth of the womb, in 17 copper cuts, with a discourse on the parts principally serving for generation/digested into a small volume ... London, E. Thomas, 1671. These images were taken while preparing a book (Wombs with a View, Springer, 2016) on the history of the illustrations and how they contributed to our understanding of anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, thereby enabling advances in the practice of obstetrics and gynecology.
