dc.description | The article begins with a background into the nature of enteropathogenic E. coli and non-pathogenic E. coli of the digestive tract. Since specific necropsy or histolic lesions are not always readily apparent in calf scours caused by enteropathogenic E. coli and no conspicuous differences are observable between this type and normal E. coli inhabitants of the intestine using standard microbiological techniques, a procedure which would readily identify enteropathogenic E. coli and implicate it's involvement in calf scours would be a valuable diagnostic tool. Three evaluation techniques for diagnosing enteropathogenic E. coli in scouring valves included: heat stable toxin demonstration, frozen tissue fluorescent antibody examination of section of ileum for K99 antigen and antigen on isolated E. coli. | |
