Using ambient air, portions of commercial piles of sugarbeets were ventilated and then deep frozen. Ventilation and freezing were accomplished using fans and an above ground duct system. Pile temperatures and sugar loss data were compared to a nonventilated check pile. Data analysis indicates the ventilation and freezing were successful in minimizing sugar losses in storage, while a check pile experienced very significant sugar losses.en
