dc.description | At this writing, in 1981, the equine herpes virus was a major cause of respiratory disease in horses under two years of age. Respiratory infections and abortions in horses is often the result of this disease. Given that it can be carried by healthy horses, the increased incidences in other horses is highly probable. There are three types of equine herpes viruses, EHV 1. EHV 2 and EHV 3. In response to this, minimizing exposure to this disease, good ventilation, insect control and isolation of suspect horses are recommended practices which can aid in the control of EHV outbreaks. A study at the North Dakota State University veterinary diagnostic service area to determine rhinopneumonitis titers of horses is given here, it's materials and methods. The value of the immunization of horses to this disease are discussed. According to study findings here, one could conclude that the majority of horse owners and breeders either have not instituted immunization programs or the immunization programs have not been effective based upon serum titer. | |
