dc.descriptionThis article was written prior to FTA, the Free Trade Agreement, being enacted. The US had a trade deficit with Canada. The objective of this new agreement would be to stimulate both countries' economies. It would be commenced January 1st, 1989. At this time, all tariffs between the US and Canada would begin to be phased out over a 10 year period. The article addresses the pluses and minuses for each member of the agreement.
