Buck was born in 1863 to grandparents Johann Buck and Fredericka Schmidt, but remained in Bessarabia with his three younger brothers: Frederich, Georg, and Gottlieb. [Their two oldest brothers, who emigrated to America were Johann (Michael) Buck (born 1855) and Johann (Ludwig) Buck, Sr. (born 1858). A sister, Johanna Buck (born circa 1861) was married to Gottlieb Hoffman of Friedenstal village.] Adolf Graf (right, top) stands behind his wife Wilhelmina's grandmother Fredericka Schmidt Buck. Their names are repeats of their uncles Christian, Gottlieb, and Georg Thomas Buck, who originated from Winterbach, Waiblingen, Wuerttemburg from 1816-1832 to South Russia. Father Johann Buck and brother Christian Buck arrived in 1839 to Friedenstal. [source: Emigration from German to Russia in the years 1763 to 1862 by Dr. Karl Stumpp, page 237.] Phyllis Knalson Bancroft states, quoting her mother Katie Graf Knalson. All younger Buck sons of Fredericka Schmidt Buck stayed in Bessarabia, and identified by Katie Graf Knalson. Wilhelmina Buck (Tante) married Adolf Graf in 1895 near Streeter. They traveled in 1911 to visit relatives in Friedenstal, Bessarabia.
