Wastes in North Dakota is projected to increase over the next century. Cost effective methods for addressing this will continue to be a problem. Protecting ground water is paramount as contamination can occur due to waste landfills. Where does one locate waste landfills? If each county in ND were operate it's own landfill, prices in the early 1990's would have ranged from $17 to $227 per tonne. The politics of addressing such landfills, managing them and properly designing or redesigning them must be taken into consideration on a local and statewide approach.
