This article describes off-site small grain research at the Williston and Dickinson Stations in North Dakota in 1970. Off-site trials expand the area covered by a small grain variety testing program and provides a wider base for the interpretation of yield data as related to the growing conditions in western North Dakota. The article gives details on these off-site locations and their trials. The cost of conducting the off-station trials is small. There is practically no increase in either machinery or labor cost, and the benefits derived from the program far outweigh the minor expense for travel and effort necessary.
