Abstract
Description
The article discusses the need for a new ‘parental’ line for the improvement of corn hybrids. Future genetic improvement in corn hybrids in North Dakota was dependent upon the availability of improved, parental inbred lines for use in corn, hybrid research and production. Single Cross hybrids were concluded to be more productive than synthetic hybrids and open pollinated varieties of corn. ND266 was the latest inbred line developed in this eighth generation self-pollinated line, a synthetic developed at NDSU.
