This report describes the historical development and current structure of the country elevator industry in selected north central states applies economic theoretical constructs to the problem, updates a major cost study and reports pricing policies employed by trainload shippers. Pricing policies of trainloading country elevators dictate how the benefits are returned to patrons are to the patrons and how the cooperative will fare in the marketplace.
