Description
In 1986, two new potentilla varieties were grown in greenhouse and transplanted to field, thepotentilla fruticosa 'Absaraka' Dakota Godlrush and Potentilla fruticosa 'Fargo' Dakota Sunspot. These two varieties had long bloom periods, dwarf growth habit and the added freedom from insects and disease. The Dakota Goldrush is a short shrub with a max height of 3.5 ft tall and spread of 4-5 ft. The Dakota Sunspot maxes at 2.5-3 ft tall with a max spread of 3-4 ft. These 2 varieties were to nurseries under a propagation agreement. These two varieties based upon their durability and hardiness were deemed to make them ideal choices for northern prairie landscapes.
