Abstract

Description

The article centers itself of the time period of 1980-86 in North Dakota in retail sales, populations and in factors that affected revenue. These factors 'pull factors' were influenced by transportation infrastructure, population characteristics, income levels of the population, changing consumer taste and how agriculture and energy demand and prices. When trade diminishes, this resulted in stressful situations for smaller rural centers in North Dakota and if continued, it could cost jobs, store closures and displaced shoppers being forced to travel farther to shop.
