A brief background on corn hybrids is given. Two synthetic varieties with improved drying characteristics are discussed, NDSAB(MS)C8(LM)C3 and NDSD(FS)C1(LM)C4 were developed by NDSU. The NDSM was a new synthetic line which appeared to have the potential for being a new source for developing parental inbred lines with low harvest moisture with high yields and excellent lodging resistance. A brief breeding history is covered in this article.
