dc.descriptionThe author discussed a shortage of vitamin C in North Dakota due to an emergency resultant from WWII. Other plants not common to normal diets in North Dakota were reviewed. The effectiveness of vitamin C to prevent or to cure the disease 'scurvy' in humans begins the discussion. Vitamin C was present in most fruit and vegetables. A number of plants analyzed for their vitamin C content. These were presented in table format. Notes on green plants and fruit are made. The author cited that jellies and jams were an important part item in the American home diet capable of supplying a tiny amount of ascorbic acid.
