    Preparation plan for a Federal-state environmental impact statement on energy development in west-central North Dakota, May 1976

    The West-Central North Dakota Energy Development Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will address the environmental impacts expected to result from coal mining and power generation in the western North Dakota counties of Oliver, Mercer, Dunn, McLean, Stark, Morton, and Burleigh. The statement will provide for joint Federal-State analysis, under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), from which plans and decisions can be made.

    The recommendation for the Southwest MFP are presented in three basic categories: split-estate minerals, scattered tracts, and Big Gumbo Management Area. These categories are further divided into specific BLM programs, such as coal and grazing. Preceding the recommendations, the overall objectives for the program are summarized. Each recommendation is followed by the rationale.
