Library staff volunteer with Habitat for Humanity
On Wednesday, June 7th, seven staff members from NDSU library volunteered their time with Lake Agassiz Habit for Humanity, on a house build in Moorhead, MN. Staff members assisted in installing a window, digging around the house for siding placement, and cutting plywood to complete the garage’s skeletal structure. A day of heavy wind and hammering offered challenges and team building opportunities for everyone involved.
Lake Agassiz Habitat for Humanity has built 53 homes in Cass and Clay counties in partnership with local volunteers and local families. Families selected for a house have to apply and meet eligibility requirements. They contribute hundreds of hours of volunteer time building their future home. Habitat for Humanity collaborates with persons in need to provide homes at no profit and they arrange for financing of affordable, no-interest loans. New homeowners are responsible for a monthly mortgage payment that goes into a fund to help support future structures.
Library staff had a great time supporting such a great cause.
