Book about Darkhouse Spearfishing added to collection

The book Darkhouse Spearfishing Across North American, by Jay A. Leitch, has been added to the Institute for Regional Studies Archives book collection.  The book was published by the Tri-College University Center for Environmental Studies, North Dakota State University.  The following quote comes from the books introduction:

“Darkhouse spearing is as much a tradition as it is a sport for many who participate.  Locals who were busy with farmwork or the tourist business in summer can relax in a warm darkhouse while waiting for a big one to swim into view.  Darkhouse, spears, decoys, techniques, and favorite fishing spots are passed along to younger generations.”
