The book Bismarck-Mandan Memories II: The 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, Volume II, produced by the Bismarck Tribune, has been added to the Institute for regional Studies book collection.
The following comes from the book’s forward:
“This volume of ‘Bismarck-Mandan Memories’ takes readers from 1940 through the 1960s. The photos show residents preparing for war, celebrating the Fourth of July over the years, the completion of Garrison Dam, the ‘blizzard of the century,’ the now legendary ‘Zip to Zap’ and the events of daily life over the decades.
There’s also a chapter revisiting the early years as the Bismarck-Mandan community began to grow.
While many photos came from the Bismarck Tribune, members of the community contributed pictures that help trace the growth of the community. These personal photos help tell about life over more than four decades.
It’s a rich pictorial history of our ancestors and of people still living.”
