Publishers Offer Free Access for Remote Teaching and Learning

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, schools and universities across the globe began closing their doors in order to help keep their students and communities safe and healthy – which meant instructors had to quickly figure out how to teach remotely, without access to physical library resources or library buildings in most cases.

On March 13, 2020, the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC), released a Statement on the Global COVID-19 Pandemic and Its Impact on Library Services and Resources. The statement asked that publishers and other information providers immediately consider a number of actions, including temporarily lifting paywalls to allow access to subscription content, lifting campus-only restrictions, and making content relevant to COVID-19, Coronaviruses, etc. openly available to facilitate research and inform the public.

Publishers and other information providers have responded in full force to support the remote teaching and learning needs of instructors and students across the globe, providing access to tools and resources that will help them complete their academic school year with success. For a list of academic and research content that has temporarily been made available for free, click here

Thank you to all who are helping students and instructors during this challenging time.
