Description: The economic benefit of having the predatory leech used in fishing is outlined. A background into the economic benefit of this leech, its’ native environment and the industry that harvests them is given. A study on the viability of a leech harvesting industry in North Dakota was conducted. Its’ format was a mailed questionnaire mailed out to bait vendors in North Dakota. The results are broken down in this article. It was decide that any expenditure for in-state harvested bait should reduce the total need for out-of-state purchases by wholesale and retail vendors and generate income for the state.
