Newspapers

NDSU only subscribes to a limited number of print newspapers - the most current issues can be found near the Reference Desk in the Main Library: The Fargo Forum, Star Tribune, New York Times, and Le Monde.

Below are a wide variety of online sources for news articles including archives of older newspapers that can serve as primary resources when doing research.

    Over 11,000 sources and 25+ ND local sources, this resource contains a variety of current and retrospective news media including newspapers, newswires, broadcast transcripts, blogs, periodicals, videos and web-only content.
  • Google News Search Archive
    News archive search provides an easy way to search and explore historical archives.
  • Nexis Uni Full text for hundreds a major national and international newspapers.
  • Global Newsstream (ProQuest)
    Full text of 300+ American and international news sources.
  • Regional Business News
    A database containing the full text of more than 50 regional business newspapers.
  • NYTimes.com (The New York Times)
    Complimentary access for NDSU students, staff and faculty by NDSU Student Government in partnership with the Provost's Office. After registration, access NYTimes.com from any network or location. 
    To Activate Your Access: 
    1. While connected to NDSU's network, visit AccessNYT.com (link is external)
    2. In the Find School box, enter North Dakota State University.
    3. Create an NYTimes.com account using your NDSU email address and a password of your choice.

  • Spectrum Archives, 1896-1961 [Full-text]
    The Spectrum is the student newspaper of North Dakota State University. This database is full-text searchable. Digitization of additional issues is currently in progress.

    American historic newspaper pages from 1836-1922 and U.S. Newspaper Directory for American newspapers published between 1690-present. Joint project of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Library of Congress.

  • Fargo Forum Newspaper Index, 1879-1995
    Index to selected articles published in the Fargo Forum and its predesessors, mostly pertaining to North Dakota and Western Minnesota. Produced by NDSU Libraries, and the NDSU Institute for Regional Studies.
  • Spectrum Index
    Index to The Spectrum, a student newspaper of North Dakota State University for the years 1896 through 1927 and 1938 to present. Produced by the NDSU Institute for Regional Studies and University Archives.
  • The Record Index
    An index to the Record, a historical magazine that was published at Fargo, N.D. from 1895 to 1905 by Col. C.A. Lounsberry. Produced by the NDSU Institute for Regional Studies and University Archives.
