Welcome to the goals and strategies of NDSU Libraries’ Strategic Plan for fiscal years 2019 through 2023. This plan was developed with extensive input from various NDSU Libraries, NDSU campus and surrounding community members. That process, along with previous strategic plans can be found on the Strategic Planning Page.
We will be using it as our guide for future growth and expansion and feel strongly that it will improve the difference NDSU Libraries makes in the lives of all those involved.

Students are the focus of our services, spaces, and resources
Students
Assess and improve services and spaces for all users to accommodate and support our students' diverse needs
- Develop systematic methods of feedback and assessment to optimize NDSU Libraries policies, programs, services, technology, and search and discovery tools for students
- Focus on outreach of library services and resources to students
- Identify existing and future social spaces and services that create a welcoming and inclusive community for NDSU students
Provide meaningful student employment and internship opportunities that intentionally maximize individual student growth, development, retention, engagement, and learning
- Empower student employees and interns to learn and demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills within the Libraries through new work opportunities
- Increase opportunities for experiential learning opportunities that will allow students to gain marketable skills through student employment positions and internships

Partnerships cultivate relationships with individuals, departments, organizations, and businesses to advocate for and invest in mutual interests

Develop funding resources through partnerships
- Cultivate closer ties with the NDSU Foundation and Alumni Association
- Establish and promote naming opportunities
- Cultivate and develop relationships with potential donors
Seek out new relationships while collaborating with existing partners
- Develop and strengthen collaborations across campus with academic departments and campus support services
- Develop and strengthen external partnerships
- Develop and strengthen partnerships that align with the land grant mission
- Establish a Library Advisory Council composed of internal and external stakeholders
Showcase how partnerships with NDSU Libraries can benefit students, research, and the land grant mission
- Partner with existing NDSU campus and local media to include NDSU Libraries
- Showcase success stories and how NDSU Libraries benefits students, research, and the land grant mission through NDSU Libraries website,social media, and other formats

Academic success is supported through instruction, consultations, and tech-rich spaces
Academics
Enhance the Libraries’ support for research capacity and information literacy for students, faculty and staff
- Introduce scaffolded information literacy to the general education program and across the disciplines
- Expand the development and delivery of innovative, new research and instructional services for graduate and undergraduate students
- Develop programs to support Libraries’ staff in continuous growth and development of professional skills to better support the NDSU community
- Establish dedicated instructional space in the Main Library

Collections are vital to supporting the teaching, learning, and research needs of NDSU and the greater community
Collections
Build the Libraries’ capacity for digital and physical collections
- Identify and encourage support for a new library facility that combines academic and special collections, as well as to showcase collections
- Sustain, expand, and preserve our digital and physical collections
Increase awareness and use of the Libraries’ diverse collections
- Promote utilization of collections by the campus community
- Promote utilization of collections by the broader local and global communities

Engagement with the community through innovative programming, sponsoring events, and showcasing our collections and services
Engagement
Create new interactive spaces to expand interest in the Library and its services
- Develop and grow a Makerspace
- Develop a Library of Things – a separate collection of non-traditional library materials such as tools, cooking utensils, and other items that support students’ creative and research activities
- Establish functional, multi-use event spaces
Increase campus and community engagement with services, events, and exhibits of NDSU Libraries
- Expand the Libraries’ promotional activities
- Increase engagement with the campus community
- Develop a Library Outreach and Marketing Department
- Establish a foundation for lifelong engagement with the NDSU Libraries
