Traditional & Medicinal Food Panel

In conjunction with Native Voices: Native Peoples’ Concepts of Health and Illness, a traveling exhibit currently at the Memorial Union Gallery, NDSU Libraries will be hosting a panel on traditional and medicinal foods.
Dr. Michael Yellow Bird will serve as moderator for this discussion. Dr. Yellow Bird, Professor of Sociology, serves as the Director of Indigenous Tribal Studies. He is a citizen of the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara) and has focused on research pertaining to Indigenous Peoples’ health as well as ancestral/paleo eating and lifestyle, among many other topics.
Panelists include Jacob Swaney: Public Health student and Research Assistant, Plant Sciences; Jamie Holding Eagle: former NDSU Public Health student; and Petra Reyna One Hawk: former NDSU Public Health student and second place winner of the Innovation Challenge ’16 with her Meal Ready to Eat comprised of traditional Native American ingredients.
Traditional food will be available. All are welcome to attend.
