Scope and Contents

Transciption of 35 letters written by Carrie and and W.A. Craker from Gladstone, N.D. primarily to her brother Eldorus Labare at Omena as well as her parents. There are also several letters by Eldorus when in North Dakota and Wisconsin. In addition there is a copy of a newspaper article written in 1883 by W.A.'s uncle Robert Lee from Gladstone regarding the area and promoting immigration. It was published in The Enterprise of Leelanau, Michigan.

Biography

Craker was born at Omena, Michigan on July 6, 1868. He went to Dakota Territory in 1884 near Gladstone where he began to farm. He returned to Omena and married Carrie Labare in 1887. They farmed near Gladstone for nine years before returning to Omena.
