Scope and Content

From the Collection: Artificial collection created to house general photographs of the North Dakota Governmental bodies. The photographs come from various sources with little or no provenance. They have been broken down into three folders, the Board of Administration, Industrial Commission, and Legislature.



The Board of Administration folder holds one photo showing a group of men and one woman standing in front of the Sakakawea statue on the North Dakota Capital grounds. Identification typed on the front states Conference of State Board of Administration and Presidents of State Educational Institutions. Dated Oct. 21-22, 1929.



The Industrial Commission folder contains four photographs showing Gov. Lynn Frazier signing bonds, a photo of Frazier with John N. Hagen and William Langer, and the commission meeting in the old North Dakota capital building.



The third folder contains general views of the North Dakota Legislature in group photos or in action on the chamber floor. There are a group of 13 snapshots taken in 1930s, some with Gov. John Moses present. There is a copy of a composite photographs showing the members of the 1907 House of Representatives. Another series of five photographs show the House in session likely around 1975. One of the photos shows Sen. J. Garvin Jacobson. The final photographs is a 1997 color image of the Senate Judiciary Committee - 1997 Back row: Senators John Andrist, Carolyn Nelson, Jim Berg, Jack Traynor, Darlene Watne, Marv Mutzenberger. Front row: Sharon Renfrow - clerk, Sen. Wayne Stenehjem - chairman, Billie Brunsoman – intern.



The oversized North Dakota Government Photograph’s are housed in Photo Folio 43. There are three folders in this collection. The first folder contains seven composite photographs of members of the North Dakota Senate for the years, 1923, 1925, 1927, 1929, 1937, 1939 and 1965. The second folder contains five composite photographs for the North Dakota House of Representatives, they include two from 1917, as well as the 1917 House Minority, 1923, and 1933. There is also a panoramic photograph of the North Dakota House members seated in the chamber, taken between 1903-1906. The final folder holds one large composite photograph of the House dated 1907. It is on a cardboard mount.



There is one extra-large composite photograph of the 1909 North Dakota Senate housed in the Oversize Photo 4, located in Drawer 9 of the Archives flat case files.
