From the Collection:
This collection of the Fargo-Moorhead Quota Club documents the activities of the organization from 1925-2009. The majority of the collection is comprised of the club’s meeting minutes, scrapbooks, and events, though also present is information relating to organization, directories, finance, and other related material. The collection is comprised of twelve series: Bylaws, Organization, Membership, Correspondence, Bulletins and Publications, Reports, Finance, Events, Subject, Membership Booklets, Meeting Minutes, and Scrapbooks.
The Bylaws Series consists of a copy of the club’s bylaws, Quota International’s bylaws, and both proposed and accepted revisions to the club’s bylaws. The club’s bylaws underwent frequent revisions; for the bylaws of each year, see the Membership Booklets series. The Organization Series contains documents relating to the philosophy of the club. Job descriptions for committee members and club guidelines are found here. The Membership Series includes all information relating to membership in the club. Primary among these records are directories and correspondence relating to the attraction, acquisition, or loss of members. Of particular note are the letters of resignations from members during the Great Depression who could not afford their dues. The Correspondence Series includes miscellaneous correspondence relating to the club. All correspondence having to do with the subjects specifically defined by another series has been included in that series. The Bulletins and Publications Series consists of newsletter-type documents relating to all aspects of the club. Most of the material is from the 1920s-1930s when summaries of the club’s activities were distributed as numbered bulletins. In later years the club periodically published stapled items, including “Quota Quotes,” and other Quota International documents. The Reports Series includes the presidential, treasurer, and committee reports from 1930-2006. The latter make up the majority of the series, while the former two are much smaller in number. The club had many committees, so this series provides excellent insight into its early activities. The Finance Series pertains to the financial standing of the club. All of the financial documents of the club can be found here with the exception of those relating specifically to membership dues or donations. Those documents are in the Membership series and the Events series, respectively. The Events Series includes documents relating to the activities of the club. Roughly half of the series is comprised of documents relating to the club’s participation in regional or national Quota events. The remaining documents pertain to fundraising and other charitable efforts the club conducted over the years. The Subject Files Series consists of Quota games and songs, along with a small handful of newspaper and magazine clippings relating to the club. Also included is an application for assistance, membership information from 1968, information about District 22 and Quota International, and various club resources. The Membership Booklets Series consists of the annual staple-bound guide to the club, which was given to each member. Of particular note are the club’s bylaws, policies, pledges, and records of past presidents. Found here are booklets from 1940-1997, though not all years are included. The Meeting Minutes Series consists of the minutes, agendas, and all other documentation relating to the club’s meetings. Records exist from 1925-2009, inclusive, thus making this the most complete and informative series in the collection. Of particular note for their scope are the bound minutes from 1925-1969. The Scrapbooks Series consists of twenty-four scrapbooks, from 1926-2006. The majority of the scrapbooks were compiled after the 1930s, with heaviest emphasis on the 1950s. Included are newspaper clippings, postcards, and other ephemera. The Hearing and Speech Committee Series consists of committee guidelines, as well as meeting minutes, reports, and correspondence. Also included are funding requests and information on various events put on by the Hearing and Speech Committee, including Signing Santa.
