Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
The North Dakota fire insurance maps cover from 1921 to 1965, but the bulk of maps is from 1954 to 1965. There are a total of 475 maps covering 409 towns in North Dakota. The maps are arranged alphabetically by town and date. They are similar in appearance to Sanborn maps except they usually include only commercial structures and not houses. There is an introductory paragraph giving population, type of waterworks system, fire department and equipment, any alarm system, and whether there is building and fire prevention ordinances. The structures are color coded and addition names, streets, and lots are given. The maps were done in two sizes, circa 26 x 22 inches and circa 13.5 x 10 inches.
