Scope and Contents

From the Collection: Typed reminiscence (19 leaves) on his pioneer Norwegian immigrant parents, Andrew and Christine Overby, who settled in Wilkin County, Minn. in 1890. Includes mention of digging water wells, plowing with oxen, description of a sod house, David McCauley and McCauleyville, Minn., road construction, peddlers, threshing, butchering, stage coaches, passenger and freight traffic on the Red River, expansion of the railroad, blizzards and weather during the 1896-1897 winter, and the naming of Wilkin County. Also includes a clipping on the family. The reminiscence includes a copy print of Andrew Overby's sod house and at a logging camp at Rice Lake, Wisc.
