History

On August 17, 1959 the North Central Educational Television Association was incorporated. It was begun by a group of Fargo-Moorhead citizens exploring the possibility of educational television for the area. A final drive was held in 1962 and in 1963 Clair R. Tettemer was employed as the first general manager. Also in 1963, WDAY television made its former tower and studio available to channel 13. KFME received several grants and on January 19, 1964 broadcast its first program. It broadcast an instructional series to twenty- three school systems within its fifty-five mile coverage area. In 1965 KFME began production of its own first program, a sixty-hour course in English literature for Concordia College. By September 1965 its staff had grown to eleven persons and the station issued its first "Program Guide".

Early members of the association's board of directors included Fred Hultz, Hamilton G. Vasey, William Stern, John S. Whittlesey, Lee A. Christoferson, Philip B. Vogel, and T.L. Donat.
