Election Material includes Voters’ Affidavits, Tally Lists, Registration Enrollment Books, both Primary and General Election Poll Books, and Applications for Absentee Ballots. In some years, polling books are divided, with a Men’s Poll Book and a Women’s Poll Book. The collection also includes extensive town records that give an in depth picture of Amenia Township through receipts and bills, reports of roadwork, a jury list, and the justice docket. The Health Department records include material relating to outbreaks of infectious diseases such as scarlet fever, influenza, and small pox.

History

Amenia Township is located in Cass County, North Dakota. Amenia is the only village in the township. It was founded in 1880. It was settled by wealthy investors from Sharon, Connecticut and Amenia, New York. They formed the Amenia and Sharon Land Company and purchased 27,832 acres of the land from the Northern Pacific Railroad. Stockholders originally planned to make their money back by selling the land to settlers. However, they noticed the success of the Dalrymple bonanza farm, they decided to grow wheat. The company built a depot and a grain elevator. This was the location of the village of Amenia.
