This collection consists of records for the village of Amenia. These include town meetings and financial information. Much of the collection encompasses the construction of the water works. There is extensive material regarding elections, including polling books and tally lists.

History

Amenia Township is located in Cass County, North Dakota. Amenia is the only village in the township. It was founded in 1880. It was settled by wealthy investors from Sharon Connecticut and Amenia, New York. They formed the Amenia and Sharon Land Company and purchased 27,832 acres of the land from the Northern Pacific Railroad. Stockholders originally planned to make their money back by selling the land to settlers. However, when they noticed the success of the Dalrymple bonanza farm, they decided to grow wheat. The company built a depot and a grain elevator. This was the location of the village of Amenia. As of the 2010 census, the population of Amenia was 94.
