Biographical / Historical

The Tri-State Grain and Stock Growers Association was formed in 1889. The three states included were North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. The organization worked to promote the interests of farmers and ranchers, and worked closely with the North Dakota Agricultural College, now North Dakota State University. In 1909 the President of NDAC, J. H. Worst, also served as the President of the Association. NDAC professors routinely addressed the annual convention. Educational programs included a wide range of topics including crop rotation, soil conservation, winter care of animals, and the dangers of renting workhorses out to Minnesota lumber camps. The association also lobbied for better roads and improved railroad service.
