Biography

Alexander Samuelsson Alin (b. Nov. 4, 1862), and Frans (Frank) Otto Samuelsson Alin (b. Sept. 18, 1869) were born in Kättilstad, Östergötland, Sweden, to Samuel Persson and Lovisa Jönsdotter. Alex Alin came to the came to the United States in 1879. He spent some time in Duluth, Minnesota, and Jamestown, North Dakota, working as a printer. He eventually set up a farm in Porter Township, Dickey County, North Dakota, where he did extensive planting of native trees and plants, and became a noteworthy nurseryman. He was a member of the North Dakota Horticultural Society. He died in 1948. Frank arrived in the United States in 1887, first coming to LaMoure, North Dakota. Then relocating to Duluth, Minnesota, until 1892, when he returned to North Dakota moving to a farm north of Fullerton. He was married to Astrid Knutson, and they had four daughters. Frank aided in the establishment of one of the first rural telephone lines in the state. He also was instrumental in organizing a rural free delivery route. He served as the postmaster of a post office set up on their property. Frank died on April 18, 1963.
