Scope and Contents

Typed excerpts and notes taken from the L.R. Waldron's diaries and annual reports documenting research at North Dakota Agricultural College and his personal life. The computer indexes are divided into seven areas: Crops, plant breeding, milling and baking studies, cooperative relations, scholarly activities, business enterprises, and personal items. There is also a listing of notes taken from Bill G. Reid's chapter on Waldron in, five for the land and its people, and a copy of a letter to son Heber Waldron regarding the notes.

Biography

Glenn Smith was Agronomy professor at North Dakota State University for forty years until his retirement in 1978. Dr. Lawrence Root Waldron was born in Michigan and moved to Fargo in 1896 to join his older brother C. B. He received a B.S. from North Dakota Agricultural College (NDAC) in 1899. He worked to establish a herbarium at NDAC. He became North Dakota’s first spring wheat breeder in 1915 at North Dakota Agricultural College. He served this position until 1952. He died in a wheat field in 1954.
