Biography

Born in Scotland, immigrated to Canada where he met his wife Agnes Smith, also a Scottish immigrant; they wed in 1871. They were part of original group that settled at Jenksville, Cass County, N.D., arriving in 1881. John Patterson, their son, was born at Seaforth, Ontario, moved to N.D. with his parents. In 1895, he wed Jennie Cuthill, began farming near Alice, N.D. Managed a hardware store for three years, then sold out and began farming near Sheldon, N.D.
