Biography

George S. Barnes was born in Barre, Vermont on April 19, 1840 to Philo S. and Betsey (Tuttle) Barnes. As a young child, his parents moved to Ohio and by the age of 19 he moved to Pacific coast where he remained for four years. He came back to the upper Midwest to Oronoco, Minnesota where he married Maria Paige in 1864. He and his wife established a farm near Glyndon Minnesota. In addition to farming, Barnes also had interest in local railroad businesses.

George and Maria had four children, George, Hector, Foster, and Marie. George died in November 28,1912 at St. Johns in Glyndon, Minnesota.

Abstract

Copies of pages from a scrapbook (some are illegible) regarding the Northern Pacific Elevator Co. and the Barnes family social activities, several letters and newspaper clippings; some clippings are typed copies that cover the social activities of the Barnes family. Other clippings cover early automobiles in the area.
