Biographical / Historical

Eugene May was born in Mahaska County, Iowa, on April 10, 1952. He was the son of George W. and Anna (Wright) May. He attended seminary at Baker University, Baldwin, Kansas. He traveled in Europe and climbed mountains, including the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps. He traveled the country as a Chautauqua speaker, lecturing on his travels and mountain climbing experiences. He served as pastor at First Methodist Church, Fargo, N.D. from 1891 to 1896.



His first wife was Ella Gould, who he married in 1877. She died in 1887. He married a second time to Anna Gold in 1890. He was the father of two children with his first wife, and three children with his second wife. He died while visiting his son in Saint Louis, Missouri on March 3, 1921.
