Biography

John Burns was born October 17, 1868 in Linton, Scotland to Thomas Sanderson and Agnes Alice (Hepburn) Burns. He came to Winnipeg, Canada when he was 14. He then came to Cass county when he was 16 or 17 with his uncle, Peter Achison. With his uncle, he would help farm several farms in the Ayer, North Dakota area.

He married Elizabeth Hyslop, on November 22 1893. They had ten children, the youngest being born in 1916 and the eldest being dorn January, 12, 1895. In addition to farming in the Ayer, North Dakota area, he also participated on the local school boards. He died June 30, 1956.
