Biography

Born Josephine Gill near St. Louis, Mo. Raised by her grandfather, Rev. William Gill. Came to Casselton, N.D. in 1884. Met her future husband, Douglas S. Smith whom she married in 1887. First settled in Casselton, later in Mayville, N.D. He died in 1915. She moved to Fargo. Buried at Casselton.
