Biography

Oscar P. Bakke was born January 22, 1889 near Leonard, North Dakota. Oscar would start herding cattle when he was 12 and would continue to do this work until he was drafted in 1917. He was the first man from Leonard drafted. Oscar would take up house painting after he returned from war. He lived in Leonard until 1942 then moving to the Veterans’ Hospital in Fargo. He died January 13, 1974.
