History

Fargo’s first law enforcement officer was elected in 1875 and by 1881 had nine officers working for the police department. By 1898, the police force has grown to 12 and used bicycles to patrol the town. Fargo’s first detective was appointed just before the turn of the century and in 1913 the first police woman was hired.
