Typed carbon copy of historical sketch by granddaughter Eva Hewitt. Sketch begins with Mr. Hovde's life in Norway, coming to America in 1868 and homesteading near Hillsboro, N.D. in 1871 with wife Maria Gulbranson Hovde. Sketch continues with author's parents, William and Gelina Maria Hovde Hewitt, their children, homesteading near Bottineau, N.D. and their return to Hillsboro. William Hewitt was a Salvation Army captain from Canada who resigned his commission and turned to farming. He died in 1938.

Biography

Hovde emigrated from Brating, Biridalen, near Hamar, Norway. Married Maria Gulbranson of Torpen, Norway; they met in Prairie Rock, Wisc. Settled on the Goose River in 1871 in Traill County, N.D.
