Scope and Content
The William G. Johnson Collection of Papers contains two poems in Norwegian, one dated 1892, correspondence regarding subscription to Soviet Travel magazine, Industrial Workers of the World songbook (1918) entitled
"Songs of the workers on the road, in the jungles, and in the shops," pamphlet (1920) entitled "Tolstoi's
prophecy; a new Napoleon will arise in this war; a new civilization will come out of it," a broadside
concerning civilian war work for World War I, program on the dedication of the Gange Rolf (Rollo)
statue in Fargo, N.D. (1952), a copy (1911) of the Proceedings of the sixth Socialist State of North
Dakota Convention in the city of Minot, N.D., and his obituary. Of interest is a pamphlet entitled "Wells' new descriptive chart giving a delineation of character according to phrenology and physiognomy". Mr. Johnson appears to have taken his phrenology measurements and marked them in the pamphlet.

Biography
William George Johnson was born at Buffalo, N.D., Feb. 6, 1882. He came to Fargo in 1904. In 1939, he was named clerk at the Fargo City Auditor’s office, and was City Auditor from 1948 to 1964. He was also treasurer at the Gethsemane Episcopal Cathedral, and was a member of the Elk’s Club, and the Fargo-Moorhead Executives Club. He also served as assistant to the executive director of the Fargo Urban Renewal Agency. He was married twice, first to Fannie Henderson in 1915. Together they had two sons and three daughters. Fannie died in 1955, and three years later he remarried to Mildred Hinkle. She died in 1964. William G. Johnson died at his Fargo home on Sep. 18, 1972, at the age of 90.
