Scope and Content

Two typescript versions of a reminiscence (16 and 19 leaves respectively) originally written by Mr. Arnold in 1923 regarding his parents, Alvin and Helen Arnold, who moved from Morocco, Indiana to Yankton, Dakota Territory in 1868, farming there for three years and then coming to Portland, N.D. in 1871. There is also a typed copy (7 leaves) of entries from Helen Peck Arnold's diary from May 28, 1868 to April 19, 1882; genealogical information on the Peck and Arnold families, and a newspaper interview with Mr. Arnold.

Biography

Willard Edgar Arnold was born on October 20, 1856 in Morocco, Indiana, to Alvin and Helen (Peck) Arnold. His family moved to Yankton, Dakota Territory in 1868. They farmed there for three years and then come to Portland, D.T. (North Dakota) in 1871. He married Carry Guttenborg on May 24, 1883. Together they had seven children. He was a gardener and farmer at Portland. He died there on June 10, 1941, and is buried in Aurdal Cemetery.
