Biography
The Clapp family resided on the 200 block of 8th St S in Fargo from about 1887. Isaac P. Clapp (b. 1839, d. 1921) moved to Fargo in 1881 via Texas and Wisconsin and, in partnership with M.W. McCraw, worked in banking and real estate. In 1884, their partnership was mutually dissolved and I.P. Clapp focused his business on farm land loans and real estate. He married Sarah Sleight (b. 1847, d. 1938) in 1882. They had one son, Edwin G. Clapp Sr. (b. 1885, d. 1972). Edwin G. Clapp Sr. attended the University of Minnesota and worked in banking from 1906 to 1918, when he moved into real estate, handling city and farm property. He was an active member in Fargo business and civic organizations, including the Fargo Building and Loan Association; the Fargo Public Library Board; and the Fargo Board of Education. In 1913, he married Jean E. Hanna (b. 1887, d. 1972), daughter of former North Dakota
Governor Louis B. Hanna. They had three children: Margaret H. (Clapp) Schuster (b. 1915, d. 1989), Edwin G. Clapp Jr. (b. 1918, d. 2013), and Dorothy E. (Clapp) King (b. 1922).
